ABOUT
CHRIS WAINWRIGHT

Chris Wainwright is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Great Dunmow, Essex. He was born in South Yorkshire and has been car mad since childhood. When he wasn't reading about or watching motor racing, he would indulge in his other love of drawing. He would take this creative passion beyond a hobby, studying graphic design at Ravensbourne College. Chris spent over twenty years working in the world of television motion graphics, whilst still enjoying art in his spare time. After stepping back from his graphic design work, he now concentrates entirely on his art. His paintings of both motorsports historic Formula 1 Grand Prix racing cars, and fantastical landscapes are not just something he enjoys, but fulfils his need to express himself and his passion for painting.

''I paint to capture the sense of speed inherent in all motorsport and to satisfy the passion I feel for it.
By distilling down how I feel about the drivers, cars, and events, into one striking image, I can reflect
the beauty, joy and nostalgia of motorsport.''

For his motorsport art Chris paints in acrylic on canvas, first spending time researching and planning a composition. His knowledge and passion for motor racing, allows him to capture his own interpretation of these sporting events in a semi abstract style. Chris uses bold contrasting colours that shout from the canvas, with stark lines and angles that accentuate the feeling of motion.

Chris is a regular spectator at motor racing events and car shows, where he gains inspiration for his car paintings. The subjects of his paintings are his personal heroes. His artistic influences range from the Impressionists to David Hockney, which along with his graphic design background blend together in these captured moments.

Chris' design background is also evident in his landscape paintings. He spends time conjuring up the ideal composition from various photographic reference, which he then produces a heightened version of reality from. These too are semi abstract and also more illustrative re-imaginings of popular locations.

All Chris' motorsport artwork is available to buy through HistoricCarArt.net which is one of the leading authorities on motorsport art worldwide. His Landscape and architectural painting are sold in local exhibitions and shops, and commissions are welcome on a range of subjects.
